One of the most interesting thing about Green Grass, Running Water was Thomas King's masterful use of word plays throughout the book. A Canadian Hat Trick: Obasan, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, and Green Grass, Running Water. In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. One of the many themes and motifs that make up his King's novel is the idea of Biblical and Native religion, culture and stories. Thomas King is a master of making popular cultural and biblical allusions in his novel Green Grass Running Water. I literally spent an entire Saturday in bed breezing through the pages and laughing. You do have a point with the green grass/running water aspect of treaties, but to put it bluntly: I'd say that some of the locations chosen for reserves were not good ideas, not then and not now. The style of Green Grass Running Water is analogous to Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. Green Grass Running Water is an interesting tale of four aging native americans who have set out from their mental hospital to save the world. The entire story is told in parallel with stories of creation, both christian and native. I find myself again wanting to review books in order to take my mind off other things. Seriously though, Green Grass Running Water by Thomas King is ridiculously intelligent and yet remains tremendously amusing. In Green Grass, Running Water, many reoccurring themes lie in Thomas King's writing. The finest for me was set in the Dead Dog Cafe with Jeannette and Nelson. In the novel, Green Grass Running Water, the author, Thomas King, uses lots of biblical allusions to not only develop the plot but develop some characters. The novel is non-linear, and jumps around from multiple stories and perspectives which somehow connect.
